My sister-in-law is a designer for her mother’s boutique, Mayor Manik located on the first floor of PKNS Shah Alam. Recently, they made a line of baju kurung suits using paisleys. They were all sold off before I could have a look of the suits.
The SIL managed to get some pieces of these paisleys for me and I got to cutting (before I went on a search for a pattern to make these fabrics shine). The search on quilt blocks ended up with Mosaic 2. The prints are tiny enough to be cut into 2-inch finished pieces. I changed the size of the block to 8-inch finished.
I don’t mind the cutting and ironing but because I’m having half-square triangles, there is an addition step to it. The triangles when joined, must be aligned.
This is a square ruler for squaring your pieced square. The diagonal line is aligned with the join and you make sure that the square is dimensioned to what it should be. Mine is for 2-1/2 with seam allowance. As you can see, its perfect.
This is followed by cutting away the dog ears (the extra pointed fabric).
This step is crucial to end up with a beautifully (hopefully) precise block.
I subscribe to the tip of cutting the squares slightly bigger than stated in the pattern, that way I can trim it down to the desired size precisely.
